Put very simply, A chiropractic adjustment is a treatment used to correct a subluxation. A subluxation is a slight misalignment and/or restriction in motion that may occur at any joint in the body, but more especially the joints of the spine. This results in interference with normal nerve function. The treatment for subluxations (the chiropractic adjustment) can take on many forms ranging from a high velocity thrust to non-force techniques such as blocking, cranial sacral techniques, or Reiki. The choice of which techniques to use and when, depends on a variety of factors such as patient needs, diagnosis, patient preferences and the education and preferences of the doctor. Our doctor is highly proficient in a wide variety of adjusting techniques and styles insuring that your treatment will be safe, effective and as comfortable as possible.
Applied Kinesiology
"When innate intelligence meets educated mind, then a proper diagnosis and treatment can be administered." "The cause of subluxation is toxin, trauma or autosuggestion." - D.D. Palmer, The founder of Chiropractic
In the language and understanding of the late 19th century, We believe D.D. Palmer was trying to describe a concept that we call The Triad of Health (pictured below). This is the concept upon which Applied Kinesiology was developed.
So what is Applied Kinesiology? Applied Kinesiology is a cutting edge method of diagnosis and treatment utilizing manual muscle testing. Although this technique can be used to greatly enhance the accuracy and outcome of diagnosis and treatment it is not intended to replace standard forms of care. Rather it is designed to be used in conjunction with traditional forms of diagnosis and treatment in order to better serve the patient. The purpose in using this technique is to find the cause of a health problem so that we can eliminate it at its source.
The three components of the triad of health are Structure, Biochemistry and Emotions.
Structure
Physiological law states that structure determines function. Because of this, structure is the foundation of the triad of health. This side of the triangle addresses the spine and other bones, joints, muscles, ligaments, tendons, discs etc. throughout the body. We address the structural side utilizing Chiropractic Adjustments along with various soft-tissue techniques and physiotherapy modalities.
Biochemistry
This side involves the biochemical processes of the body. In our office, this is primarily addressed through the use of nutritional supplements and neutraceuticals. But simply supplying a deficient substance to the body is usually not enough. To give an example, if the body is deficient in iron, supplementing the proper type of iron will alleviate the symptoms. However if the cause of the iron deficiency is not discovered and addressed, the deficiency will only return when the patient stops taking the iron. Our goal is to find and eliminate the cause of the given deficiency.
Emotions
This side of the triangle is rarely addressed by health care practitioners. Few people in today's society consider that emotions must be processed by the body as well as the mind. Often, intense emotional situations involving fear, anger, extreme stress or even extreme joy can cause blockages or errors in the physical processing of these and other emotions. Over time (even a very short time in some cases) these processing errors can (and often do) manifest as physical symptoms ranging from aches and pains to fatigue, dizziness, nausea and many others. Once the blockage is gently removed, the emotion can be normally processed by the body and the associated symptoms will disappear. In our office, a treatment protocol known as Neuro-Emotional Technique (NET) is utilized to accomplish this.
